An insurance perspective: Rising vehicle repair costs and its impact on our consumer Vehicle repair costs are going up—so are vehicle damage insurance claim costs in Ontario and Alberta. This session looks at the how and why of increasing vehicle damage insurance claims and the impacts of increasing cost trends on consumer premiums. It also looks at initiatives that can help mitigate the problem, from more support to address the labour shortage to right-to-repair legislation. Sean Ashford, Business Development Specialist, Color Compass Corporation
Sean Ashford is an accomplished business development specialist with an impressive background in the auto collision distribution industry. Born and raised in England, he has accumulated over 30 years of invaluable experience in this field.
Throughout his career, Sean has taken on various roles that have contributed to his expertise in cost control through material management.
Sean plays a crucial role throughout North America in optimizing inventory management practices for customers. This involves from start up processes to ensuring that customers have the right inventory levels, minimizing excess stock, and streamlining distribution processes.
Sean’s leadership in the development of inventory control systems underscores his commitment to improving efficiency and accuracy within the auto collision distribution industry. These systems automate inventory tracking, reduce errors, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Sean Ashford’s extensive experience, from working as a technician to holding leadership positions within the auto collision distribution sector, showcases his well-rounded expertise in this field. His involvement in the development of inventory control systems and his mentorship role in customer integrations highlight his dedication to innovation and client satisfaction.

Hanna Beydoun, Manager, Policy, Insurance Bureau of Canada
Hanna is Manager, Policy, at the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) with her expertise on automobile insurance policy. Hanna leads a dedicated team that works with IBC’s member property and casualty insurers to develop public policy solutions to improve auto insurance systems for both consumers and insurers across the country. This includes the review of regulatory frameworks, auto insurance products, and trends in claims costs and premiums data. Hanna also leads IBC’s Vehicle Damage Working Group comprised of its members, exploring potential recommendations that could address rising vehicle damage claims costs. Prior to joining IBC, Hanna worked for both provincial and federal governments in a number of policy capacities.
Hanna earned an undergraduate degree from McMaster University and a Master’s degree in public policy from the University of Waterloo. Most recently, Hanna completed a Women in Leadership certificate program from Harvard University.
Cecile Bukmeier, Program Chair, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology
Cecile Bukmeier is the chair of the Auto Body program at NAIT. She provides education and shares her passion with auto body apprentices in Alberta. Cecile began her career in high school, attending the pre-employment auto body program before graduating. In 2013, Cecile was invited to compete at the Skills Canada car painting competition, where she won gold nationally. Over the past 9 years, she has continued to volunteer for Skills Canada and moved into leadership roles within their provincial, national, and international committees. This has allowed her to share knowledge and collaborate with the auto body industry across the world.
Mike Hughes, Academic Chair for Auto Body Trades at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)
With over a decade of experience in the heavy equipment industry, Mike Hughes has emerged as a leading expert and educator in the field of mechanics and technology. Currently serving as the Academic Chair for Auto Body Trades at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Mike has led an incredible team of auto body instructors who share his vision of shaping the next generation of auto body professionals. In addition to his role at SAIT, Mike actively engages with professional organizations and attends conferences to stay up to date with emerging technologies in the auto care sector.
Michelle Li, CPA, VP Claims Planning, Performance and Business Partnering
Michelle Li has been with Aviva Canada for 13 years and currently leads a Shared Services function that includes Data, Analytics, and Supply Chain functions for Claims. She is the Executive Sponsor for Aviva Canada’s Sustainable Claims initiative, where the focus is on supplier engagement and Net Zero Claims by 2030. Prior experience includes roles in Finance, Analytics and Performance Management functions within Aviva Canada and in banking and telecommunications sectors.
Taylor Moss, Manager – Repair Intelligence Team, OEConnection (OEC)
Taylor is currently responsible for the distribution for the RepairLogic Repair Planning Platform in North America, with the goal of eliminating the endless complexity around vehicle repair. His duties include presenting about RepairLogic and industry topics at regional and national events, meeting with customers and potential customers to understand their needs, and aiding in overall strategy direction.
Taylor has an extensive background in the collision industry with a career spanning 11+ years. Taylor has started two businesses that have grown to be multi-million dollar companies in the collision repair industry. He was a founder at Estify from 2012-2017 and under his leadership it grew to more than 1,000 repair facility customers. In 2017 Taylor had the opportunity to partner with the CarProof founder, Paul Anthony, to start the company that produced RepairLogic. RepairLogic was acquired in 2021 by OEC. As a Founder Taylor was responsible for product development, sales, customer strategy, operations, and more at one time or another. He loves discovering areas of opportunity and building solutions that make life better for the collision repair industry.
